Cover Shoot for The Times

September 14, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this cover shoot for The Bow & Wow Times, Bow & Wow‘s quarterly in-house magazine. On the cover of the July-September Issue are Khatie, an adorable Persian/”Puspin” mix, and Mindy, a beautiful Golden Retriever, both very deserving winners of Bow & Wow’s Next Pet Model Contest which I was also privileged to take part in as photographer and judge back in June.

Compared to lifestyle sessions I do for private clients, which are usually more free-flowing and less structured, this particular assignment obviously required a little more art direction as well as props. We shot at Bow & Wow’s and Healthy Options’ head office where they allowed me to convert a portion of their training center into a colorful classroom. Oh what fun! The tricky part through was finding the right spot to set up. After I did, I drew up some of the curtains to get as much pretty sunlight as I could to stream in through the windows and get the feel of a very bright and airy classroom. Gotta love happy, natural light! I hope I pulled it off well! Meanwhile, I must say that our models Khatie and Mindy totally did! They were sooo absolutely wonderful and easy to work with. “Smart Pets” indeed! They worked very well together too. Well, for the most part I think! Haha! After discussing the blocking, Khatie got into position and just stayed there. What a good boy! Mindy did the same, although we realized she couldn’t quite fit comfortably in just one chair so we had to put two chairs side by side. (Sorry Mindy, I overlooked that part!) After an hour of shooting, Mindy drooling, and Khatie having to be reassured every now and then that Mindy wouldn’t eat him (hahaha!), we were done! Good job, you two! And good job to your wonderful humans too!!!

Thank you once again to Bow & Wow and the Healthy Options group for the opportunity of working with your team once again!

The Bow & Wow Times (print version) is available at all Bow & Wow stores, and can also be read online. Click here to read the magazine via Scribd.

PPBD in Good Dog

April 10, 2012

So blessed, humbled, and honored to be featured in Good Dog Magazine this April!  When they asked me back in November if they could do an interview with me and a behind-the-scenes photo shoot, I was super thrilled! Honestly… it was like a little dream come true for me. Haha! Babaw ba? But c’mon, guys!!! It’s only THE BEST doggie magazine in the country, right!?

I remember when I started this hobby-turned-business (ad)venture a while back, I saw an issue of Good Dog as I stood in line at a grocery store and told myself, “Someday I’m gonna come out in that magazine!”  And now I have! Yay!!! This only pushes me to improve myself a hundred times more, hone my craft and figure out how I can be of better service to all you Good Dog readers out there.

We shot at La mesa Ecopark in Quezon City, quite an interesting road trip for this southern gal! Sooo far away but sooo nice to know such a place exists in the north. (You can read more about the park here.) There I met Maggie Adan, Good Dog’s editor-in-chief, and her two wonderful Goldens, Knightly and Gable. So great to meet you, Maggie! Thanks so much!

Super thanks also to the Good Dog team there that day – Lana Chan, managing editor (Thanks for organizing all this, Lana! You rock!);  Marc Yazon, art director; and Vincent Coscolluela, photographer. And thanks to our model for the day, Teeffany (below), and her spunky Pomeranian, Botchie, of course! You guys were awesome !

Contributing writer, Mimi Tiu, did a wonderful job with the feature too. She managed to take my ramblings and very detailed kwentos and turn them into concise statements (a weakness of mine!) and I think she did it very well. Thanks Mimi!

I must say… it felt super weird being the subject this time, and not the photographer. So disorienting and strange… but I had fun! Thanks again for this experience, Good Dog! And thank you, good God, for all the many blessings!

Good Dog Magazine is a Summit Publication bundled quarterly with Good Housekeeping Philippines for only P125.

I found lots of good stuff inside Good Dog’s April Issue. I especially liked the Breed Basics section (coz I love Labs!) and the feature on dog-friendly summer destinations. Really helpful!
